De "Tong-brekers"
In 1939 trad Danny voor het eerst op Broadway op in "The Straw Hat Revue", samen met Imogene Coca.
Later datzelfde jaar werd hij gecast voor "Lady in the Dark" door Moss Hart, die hem had zien optreden in de nachtclub The Martinique.
Speciaal voor Danny voegde Hart een rol toe aan het stuk, waarin Danny 11 minuten lang optrad als temperamentvolle fotograaf
die ongelooflijke "tong-brekers" kon uithalen.
Dit werd het meest duidelijk met het lied "Tchaikovsky", waarin Danny maar liefst 54 namen van Russische componisten wist te zingen binnen 38 seconden.
